Join us for our monthly bird survey in partnership with Houston Audubon, led by longtime birder and photographer, Paul Gregg and Mercer Education Director, Christy Jones. Mercer is considered a “Hot Spot” for birders due to the diverse array of habitats including hundreds of acres of riparian forest, open meadows, a variety of small natural and man-made lakes along the Cypress Creek corridor, and cultivated garden spaces.
This is a beginner friendly and educational birding program. Birders can expect to see year-round birds such as cardinals, bluebirds, pileated woodpeckers, and chickadees, as well as migratory hummingbirds, warblers, kites, and cuckoos. We even see an occasional bald eagle!
Bring your own binoculars or borrow a pair of ours. Please wear closed toed shoes and be prepared to walk up to 2 miles on pavers and crushed asphalt trails as well as grass. Meet in front of the Mercer Visitor Center.
