The Woodlands – Riparian Evaluation Community Scientist Training

July 21, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Who: Texas Stream Team
Where: The Woodlands Show on map
NOTE: You must be at least 14 years of age to attend this training. Any minors (under the age of 18) planning on attending this training must have a parental guardian present with them at the training.

Texas Stream Team’s Riparian Evaluation Citizen Scientist Training certifies Texans to assess the health of waterways based on evaluating the landscape bordering water bodies – known as riparian areas. To limit the duration of the live virtual training, this training will require a prerequisite online 1.5-hour module, which must be completed before the day of the virtual live training.

Environmental Services will host a Riparian Ecosystem Assessment Training from 9am to 1pm with first couple hours of the class here at our Environmental Services office campus, 8203 Millennium Forest Drive. (Class is in the Multipurpose Room of the Aquatics Bldg, so as you reach the end of the street on Millennium Forest, turn Right into the gate on your right, and immediately turn Right again to park in the lot at the back of the Aquatics Bldg. Use the door at the very back of the building on that side to enter the meeting room.)

After the first couple hours of class time, the group will drive to the Bear Branch Rec Center to visit Bear Branch creek to apply what they learned in the class and do some vegetation ID. The attached map is fairly crude, but you can see where to park and where we will walk to visit the site to observe the creek (marked w red dot and an X)

To learn more about this training, find a link from Meadows Center here: The Riparian Evaluation training has no training prerequisites, however registrants must complete an intro module.
