Texas has 15 major rivers and 3,700 named streams that eventually reach the Gulf of Mexico, but many of us do not touch or experience these rivers, streams, and bayous in our daily lives. We drive past and over without seeing them, but every day we make decisions and take actions that impact our water in profound ways. Are your actions having a positive or negative affect on our local surface water? Its quality? Its quantity? Integrating green infrastructure or nature-based practices within developed areas is one way to collect and treat rainfall to reduce runoff, while offering benefits beyond water management. Join Celina Gauthier Lowry and Christie Taylor, Extension Program Specialists at Texas Community Watershed Partners as they share the intersection of land, water, and people along with steps we can take as both individuals and a community to address local water issues, because as James Karr said, “what we do on the land, we read in the water.”
