The Houston Chronicle featured Sheldon Lake State Park in an article on March 31, 2016. The Texas Master Naturalist Program was highlighted and TMN volunteers, John Egan, Dick Benoit and Chatt Smith were quoted.
The article is titled ” Volunteers transform Sheldon Lake State Park” with a sub-heading of “Texas Master Naturalist program brings back native plants, birds – and pride”
A group of birders led by TMN Heartwood chapter member Krien VerBerkmoes went to Sheldon Lake State Park on April 8. We spotted nearly 30 bird species plus saw several alligators, snakes, turtles, butterflies and dragonflies. The park offers a boardwalk for the wetlands area, trails through prairie and waterways, ponds for fishing and wildlife watching, plus a tower for wildlife watching.
