Woodsy Owl Conservation Corp volunteers at WG Jones State Forest

July 21, 2018 by

Volunteers from the Woodsy Owl Conservation Corp, Lone Star College-Montgomery students and Texas Master Naturalists participated in a Pollinator Planting Party at WG Jones State Forest. Over 90 pollinator fruit tree species were planted in containers. The pollinator wildflower area was seeded. The trees and seeds are part of a NEEFUSA grant to connect gardens and communities.

Woodsy Owl Conservation Corp members, Andre Saenz (SFASU) and Sarah Dolphin (UT) are working to rejuvenate the Monarch Butterfly Way Station installed originally in 2011 by a Heartwood Chapter member in WG Jones State Forest. Besides pulling out non-habitat plants, they learned how to properly prune tree species with the way station location.
