Event Description: Scientific information about artificial light at night and its affects on the environment and society has increased rapidly in recent years. To help make sense of this body of knowledge, DarkSky International publishes “Artificial Light at Night: State of the Science” , a plain-language summary of seven topical themes with an extensive bibliography. In this presentation, John Barentine will describe why the State of the Science is needed; how it was researched and composed: how the report is structured, and how advocates can use it to support their activities and communications with elected officials, interest groups and the public. John will coclude with som key takeaways from the 2024 report and highlights of studies published in 2023.
