AT: FaceBook Live – Eclipse Lesson

Chuck Blend will be LIVE on the STMN FaceBook page talking about the eclipse on Saturday.

We will learn about the different types of lunar and solar eclipses, the celestial mechanics/geometry behind how and when eclipses occur, and the safest ways to view the eclipse.  We’ll learn about the ‘umbra,’ ‘penumbra,’ and ‘antumbra’ – all involved in the play of shadow and light, and we’ll see how many things must ‘line up’ to have an eclipse.  Lastly, we’ll focus on the annular eclipse happening here on 14 October, including where it is starting in the continental U.S., what one should expect to see from start to finish here in Corpus and when, and also how there will be another eclipse – a total solar eclipse – in April of next year, though to see that one in totality, you’ll need to head up to San Antonio or little further west.
