Jackson-Calhoun Counties Christmas Bird Count

Volunteer Opportunity!  The Jackson-Calhoun County CBC straddles the Jackson and Calhoun County line in the Midcoast section of our state. It is centered near the community of Weedhaven, which is just east of the town of Port Lavaca and Point Comfort. The circle includes bay and estuarine habitat along the Lavaca River and Carancuhua River watersheds as well as riparian areas along Cox Creek and Keller Creek. Good portions of the circle include pasture and crop land, some limited thorn scrub and some feeder-watch opportunities in the town of Point Comfort. There should be good birding on the Formosa Plastics and ALCOA properties near Point Comfort and of course on the Tejano Wetland near the town of La Ward. This count is always held on December 27.
