Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve Eco-Expert: Incredible Chemistry of Plants

February 15, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Advanced Training Opportunity: Come out to the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve for this month’s Eco-Expert, Chad Huckabee.  Mr. Huckabee will present about the Incredible Chemistry of Plants.  Ever wonder why a plant smells good or smells bad? Or how some plants seem to adapt to specifically attract or even repel certain insects? Did you ever wonder why some plant leaves are hairy, while some are smooth; why some plants have thorns or spines, and some do not? Come explore the fascinating topic of plant chemistry. Plants can automatically synthesize a mind-boggling variety of chemicals. Humans use this amazing property to enhance our foods, treat illnesses and enact acts of violence even against other humans. Chad Huckabee is a former science educator, an avid outdoors enthusiast and the past president of the local Texas Master Naturalist chapter.
