Our biggest volunteer event right now is the Trail of the Dead on November 2nd at 7pm to 11pm. We’re focusing on nighttime creatures that are normally deemed “scary” with the goal of educating the public about them; props, live animals, etc. are welcome to show off, to decrease the fear factor and garner respect instead. We have a volunteer speaking about carrion-eating birds and owls, and another exploring the diversity of moths. All other animals, like bats, snakes, mice, etc. are open still!
If anyone chooses to volunteer, they would be provided a campsite.
There is also a volunteer opportunity for cultural resources. Anyone may choose to set up a Day of the Dead altar in our gym, so we can showcase the different ways families are remembered. Right now we will have a State Park altar and a Girl Scouts altar. A Master Naturalist altar could be fun! Just let us know by October 18th if anyone would like to do that.
