Volunteer Invitation for the Coastal Bend Regional Science Fair 2024
The 2024 Coastal Bend Regional Science Fair needs volunteer judges as well as general volunteers. Our greatest need from the community are volunteer judges with Science, Engineering Computer Science or Mathematics related degrees and careers to judge the Junior and Senior Division projects.
On Friday, February 9th we will have from 140-220 projects which need to be judged. The Senior Division (9-12 grades) usually has from 30-50 projects and the Junior Division (6-8 grades) has 150-170 projects. Each judge will assess approximately 10 projects in the same or related categories, and judges within pairs or triplets. This means we need at minimum 44 judges for the Junior and Senior Division fairs.
On Saturday, we will need judges for approximately 400 projects for the Elementary Division (K-5 grades), which means a minimum of 80 judges for the Elementary Fair.
The Thursday evening before the fair, February 8th, we will hold an online training which lasts approximately one hour. On fair day you will arrive 45 minutes early and will spend approximately 2 hours in the exhibit hall and up to an hour conferring and making final decisions. Total volunteer time is about 5 hours. The time flies and our judges report that they enjoy the experience.
Judging projects is a great way to see how our awesome Coastal Bend student scientists are going to impact our future, and to support them in their enthusiasm for science.
We hope that you can volunteer judge with us in 2024. Please see our web page for more information and links for judge registration (usually live by mid-December). Please register by or before January 26th. If you do not feel like you are qualified as a judge, we need general volunteers for set up, safety and display, exhibit hall monitors and so on.
The time frame for both fair days is from 9pm-1pm. All activities are held on the TAMUCC Campus in the University center. After your register as a volunteer, you will be sent more details.
