Attention all lizard lovers, snake aficionados, and turtle enthusiasts! Get ready to geek out over our scaly friends at the upcoming Adventures in Herpetology at the next Blackland Prairie Master Naturalist meeting. We promise a night of fun, learning, and maybe even a few croaks of laughter. It’ll be unfrogettable!

  • SRC Doors will open at 6:30 PM
  • Zoom meeting waiting room will open at 6:45 PM
  • Business Meeting will begin at 7:00 PM
  • Naturalist Talk will begin at 7:30 PM (approximately)

Topic: Adventures in Herpetology – When, where and how to go herping in the Blackland Prairie. Learn tips and tricks to identify reptiles in the field.

Speaker: Don Walker, Neo-Paleoherpetologist, Plano East High School Natural Science Teacher

Don Walker is an experienced biologist and herpetologist with a passion for education and nature. He has made significant contributions to the field of herpetology through his research on fossil snakes and publications in scientific journals. Don’s expertise extends beyond herpetology, encompassing ichthyology, mammalogy, and limnology. He is a dedicated educator with over 28 years of experience teaching at both the collegiate and secondary levels. Don is currently a teacher and team lead at Plano East Senior High, where he also writes the curriculum for environmental systems, earth systems, and astronomy. His diverse hobbies include fossil and rock collecting, nature photography, book collecting, fish keeping, and reptile and amphibian keeping. He is happily married with two sons who share his love for nature.

Physical Meeting Location:  Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, 
1Nature Place, McKinney TX 75069, Science Resource Center (SRC) building.
Directions to SRC:  Drive through Heard gates; go past parking lot and museum building; continue until the road ends at the large white SRC building.
