Join us on October 14th at 7 PM. Prairies are becoming a rarity in our state. Only 1% remains of the vast blanket of tallgrass prairie that once swept across North and Central Texas. These remnant grasslands provide essential services and benefits to us–the local human residents–and native wildlife. Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) is working to conserve these incredible landscapes in and around the DFW area through a multi-year project called the North Texas Prairie Initiative. NPAT’s North Texas Conservation Manager, Rachel Seets, will talk about the value of our Texas prairies, how NPAT is conserving them through this initiative, and how you can get involved in prairie stewardship efforts!
Speaker: Rachel Seets, North Texas Conservation Manager for Native Prairies Association of Texas
Rachel Seets is a Fort Worth native and grew up exploring the beautiful prairies and woodlands of North Texas. Like many Texans, Rachel is passionate about protecting and stewarding the wild, open landscapes that make Texas feel like home. For her first job out of college, she served as a part of the education team at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas in Fort Worth. She later earned a master’s in biology from Texas State University with a focus on Natural Resource Management. After graduating from TXST, she worked for an organization called Hill Country Alliance and focused on supporting local landowners with their land management goals. She is now back home in Fort Worth and working as the North Texas Conservation Manager for Native Prairies Association of Texas, where she helps local landowners permanently conserve their prairie land in North Texas.
