Barbara Hibberd’s Pocket Prairie

05/21/2025 by mconnally

Barbara Hibberd, Class of 2023

These are Evening Primroses.  I was on a walk a long time ago (at least twenty years). We have a creek at the end of our block.  I found a plant lying on the grass where they’d just finished mowing.  It still had roots with dirt attached.  I took the plant home, dug a spot for it, and put it near the sidewalk.  I figured the plant was probably too far gone to save, but I was willing to make the effort.  It didn’t die.  The following year, there were more.  Almost every year, they’ve come back.
