From the Desk of the Treasurer, Linda Nixon – Class of 2018
At our July in-person chapter meeting we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Blackland Prairie Chapter. As a part of the celebration, we created an opportunity for members to make donations to honor our founding emeritus members: Dave Powell, Sally Evans, Deborah Canterbury, Ed Ellerbe, Donna Cole. Three programs were selected to receive donations (see below).

- BPTMN Junior Master Naturalist Program
project gives elementary students hands‑on environmental learning through outdoor exploration and science‑based activities, building curiosity, responsibility, and respect for nature. This chapter led program follows the Junior Master Naturalist framework and is operated independently by the Blackland Prairie Chapter with a local Parks & Recreation partner. There is currently no statewide Texas Junior Master Naturalist program.
- BPTMN Youth Engagement & Stewardship Committee
plans and supports youth‑focused education and outreach, maintains related resources, and explores new youth programs aligned with the Chapter’s mission.
- Friends of Texas Master Naturalist
support the Texas Master Naturalist program by managing registrations, sponsors, vendors, and sales for the Annual Meeting. This statewide event gives natural resource volunteers hands‑on training and strengthens the capacity of communities that rely on volunteers for youth education, park and nature center operations, and local conservation leadership. A shortage of dedicated, well‑trained volunteers is often a limiting factor in community‑based conservation efforts.
