Here is the information to sign up to plant trees on the banks of Wilson Creek in McKinney Greens Park on Saturday, November 6, including a link to signup through the City of McKinney website.
In addition, Dave Powell says help is still needed for tree delivery and placement by holes on Friday, November 5. So, the link to signup for this activity is also included below.
Event: McKinney Greens Arbor Day Tree Planting
Date: Saturday, November 6, 2021
Time: 8:00 AM -12:00 PM – Please arrive at the site by 7:30 AM
Description: Since last October, BPTMN Member Emeritus Dave Powell has been working with a group of partners to coordinate a project to plant 1,670 native trees along Wilson Creek in part of what was the golf course called the Greens of McKinney. Organizations involved in this project include Texas A&M Forestry Service, North Texas Municipal Water District, McKinney Parks and Recreation Department, McKinney Storm Water Management, McKinney Parks Foundation, Heard Natural Science Museum and, of course, Blackland Prairie Chapter of TXMN.
Work Plan: Planting of trees on the banks of Wilson Creek in the McKinney Greens Park:
- Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at the parking area at 7:30 for planting to begin at 8:00.
- After check-in, a planting demonstration will be provided.
- Volunteer groups or families can work in teams by designating a team name in the appropriate box on the registration.
- Holes will be pre-dug and there will be various sizes and species of trees to plant. The number of trees you can expect to plant will vary based on the sizes of trees and the number of people in your team. In general, you can expect to plant between 20 and 40 trees.
- Trowels, gloves, and some shovels will be provided.
- Please wear closed-toed shoes.
- Water will be provided in reusable water bottles and 200 volunteers will receive a thank you gift tote.

Dress: Routine dress code for activity in the field: Long-pants, boots/close-toed shoes; long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Master Naturalists should wear their name badges.
Bring: Drinking water, gloves, sunscreen, insect repellant and face mask (just in case). Volunteers are also encouraged to bring a shovel if you have one.

Parking: Parking for Tree Planting on November 6 will be available at the Collin County Appraisal District located at 250 Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney, TX 75069. From the Appraisal District, volunteers may choose to take the short walk to the site or take a shuttle provided by the City of McKinney. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at the parking area at 7:30 for planting to begin at 8:00.

Logging VH: Hours may be logged under BPTMN: McKinney Greens Project with “Arbor Day riparian tree planting restoration project and a few words about your activity” in the service description box.
NOTE: The initial email message about the site preparation activities on November 2-5 had the incorrect opportunity listed for logging VH. All VH for this event, including site preparation and actual tree planting, from Nov. 2-6 should be logged using the BPTMN: McKinney Greens Project opportunity. (Do not use “McKinney Pros: Community Center Nature Trail” as instructed in the initial email.)
Other Information:
If you are volunteering for site preparation work on November 5, you will need to bring a completed and signed McKinney Parks Foundation volunteer waiver to the work site.
