Speaker:
Join us for an engaging online presentation with BPTMN Bat Project Coordinator Linda Nixon, who will share what our Bat Team has discovered over the past two years. Linda became a Master Naturalist in 2018 and brings years of experience in environmental management, along with a lifelong passion for wildlife care and conservation. She is currently the Treasurer for the Blackland Prairie Chapter.

Topic: Texas Acoustic Bat Monitoring Project
Texas is known as one of the most ecologically diverse states in the U.S., with 11 distinct ecological regions and 180 species of mammals, including at least 30 species of bats! Despite this diversity, scientists are still learning where these bat species live across the state.
To help fill those gaps, in 2024 TPWD Texas Nature Trackers wildlife biologists partnered with Texas Master Naturalist volunteers to launch the Texas Acoustic Bat Monitoring Project—using specialized acoustic equipment to record and identify bat species in the wild.
During this Deep Dive, you’ll learn about:
🦇 Bat species found in our chapter area
🌿 What makes great bat habitat📍 How monitoring sites are selected
🎤 How acoustic monitoring equipment works in the field
📊 How bat calls are analyzed and turned into usable data
📄 How results are shared with landowners
🌎 The impact of this project across Texas
If you’re curious about bats and want to learn how volunteers are helping protect them in a changing
