Sue Yost, LLELA Volunteer and Elm Fork Master Naturalist, Class of 2017
Are you looking for a wonderful way to introduce your little ones to the wonders of the natural world? Look no further than Toddler Nature Time @ LLELA! We gather on the third Wednesday of each month, from September through May, for an adventure designed specifically for our youngest nature enthusiasts.

Each session, we welcome children aged 18 months to 5 years old (with ages 2-4 often finding it just right!), accompanied by a parent or guardian. We kick off our time together by reading a nature-oriented book, followed by a simple, themed craft.
Then, it’s off to explore! We embark on a gentle 20-30 minute hike, encouraging kids to embrace the outdoors, overcome any fear of bugs, and sharpen their observation skills using all four senses to spot colors, shapes, and textures. It’s a fantastic learning experience for adults too, especially if you’re looking to connect more deeply with nature yourself!
Last month, for instance, our theme was “10 Little Ladybugs.” Our tiny explorers enjoyed coloring sheets with chunky toddler crayons and borrowed magnifying glasses for our hike, getting an up-close look at the mini-world around them. Just like little Summer in the photo, who was utterly captivated by the bugs, children often remind us to slow down and appreciate the countless wonders we adults might otherwise miss.
Spaces are limited to just 10 participants per session, and registration is required. There’s a $5 event fee and a $5 gate fee to help cover costs.
Ready to join our next outdoor adventure? Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, and we can’t wait to welcome you when our season resumes in September!
