From LocalProfile: Grassroots Revival: Frisco’s Monarch View Park Becomes A Beacon For Native Restoration

11/25/2025 by mconnally

Rick Travis, Class of 2018

Submitted by member and Monarch Park co-chair Rick Travis, this Local Profile feature details the incredible “Grassroots Revival” taking place at Monarch View Park. What started as a challenge to fix a failing, eroded slope has evolved into a vibrant ecosystem where over 200 volunteers have logged 3,000 hours restoring the land. Championed by Play Frisco’s Cory MacGillivray and BPTMN project lead Laura Kuwayama, the initiative has successfully introduced 90 native species to the area, creating a crucial stopover on the Monarch Flyway. Read the full article to discover how this partnership is turning a public park into a living classroom and setting a new standard for sustainable urban landscapes in Frisco.
