The McKinney Green Gardens restoration project, a Blackland Prairie Master Naturalists (BPTMN)- approved project and a Chapter grant recipient, experienced a highly successful workday on July 5th.
Leading the charge were two dedicated BPTMN members: Mary Abercrombie, who also works with the City of McKinney Office of Sustainability, and Paulette Platko. They teamed up with an enthusiastic group of 11 community volunteers to make a substantial impact on the restoration efforts. The collaborative workday proved to be a valuable step forward for this important local initiative.

Here is what Mary from the City of McKinney Office of Sustainability had to say!
Together, we spent a beautiful morning improving the health and resilience of our Green Gardens. By turning the compost and relocating it to a shadier spot, we helped speed up the natural decomposition process, turning food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil that will nourish future plants. Potting native milkweeds supports local pollinators, especially monarch butterflies, whose populations depend on this host plant to survive. 🦋 🐛
