Native Flora Seeds Needs Volunteers!

02/12/2025 by mconnally

Adele Bourget, Class of 2024

Native Flora Seeds, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is dedicated to promoting biodiversity and combating habitat loss through the power of native plants. All profits from seed sales support  Homegrown National Park, an initiative to introduce and restore native flora across private, public, and neglected lands.  It is 100% volunteer-operated.

Our Mission:

  • Improve native plant habitats, which face significant threats, including habitat loss, invasive species, climate change, and pollution, resulting in threats leading to biodiversity loss.
  • Educate and raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the ongoing threat of habitat loss.
  • Create a seed and planting program to impact 1+ million acres of land by introducing and cultivating native plants.
  • Introduce home gardens, idle farms, and public lands to the beauty and ecological benefits of native flora.

Immediate Volunteer Help Needed:

We need volunteers passionate about native plants and the environment to help further our mission. Current areas where your expertise or time would be invaluable include:

  1. Website Updates:
    • Please help us improve our online store by providing customers with all the essential information they need for successful planting.
    • Tasks may include adding planting instructions, listing plant characteristics, and incorporating maps to show plant native regions.
    • With 110 seed types already available on our site—and over 50 more to add—plenty of work to be done!
  2. Other Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Writing Blogs for the website to educate visitors and promote native plant gardening.
    • Connecting with Conservation Groups to expand our planting programs in local communities.
    • We are building a Program of Community Ambassadors to help us engage with and educate local communities about the importance of native plants and habitat restoration.

If you’re interested in volunteering or learning more about these opportunities, please contact Jim Carras, Founder and Director of Native Flora Seeds, at JimC@nativefloraseeds.org.
