Heather Fell, Class of 2021 and Chair of Heritage Farmstead Native Prairie Garden Project
Our Heritage Farmstead Native Prairie Garden project recently received a Monarch Waystation certification. It took a lot of hard work by many volunteers in our chapter to get the milkweed established and fight off the invasive bindweed that has been choking out more and more of the native pollinator plants over the last few years. We’ve also had chickens and a donkey putting their own game trails in the flower beds. It’s been quite a journey for us to get this garden looking beautiful. I know that the picture is a queen butterfly but I couldn’t catch the monarch last time I volunteered. They move around a lot more than the queens.
