Leah Justice, Class of 2021

Since childhood, I have always loved being in nature and helping animals.  I grew up going to our family cabin at Lake Texoma and experiencing farm life at my Great Uncle’s farm in Oklahoma.  Being outside is my happy place.

One day, I came across a conversation on social media about quails in Connemara where someone mentioned Texas Master Naturalists.  It was so exciting to find out that an organization like this existed.  My application was accepted that year and the journey began.

Being part of such a special group of people who work so hard to help nature thrive continues to be an amazing experience.  Most of my volunteer hours come from working at the Heard in animal care.

In the past year, I also worked on the education committee, helped with hospitality, and volunteered in animal care at the Holifield Center.  There is always something new to learn from nature.
