“Volunteering here has given me the opportunity to learn more about species that I didn't know much about such as gray rats and the life cycle of opossums!” - Carolyn
I volunteer primarily at the Holifield Learning Center, located in Bob Woodruff Park, which is part of the Plano School System. If you aren’t familiar with it, the Learning Center is dedicated to introducing students to native Texas critters as well as small animals from other parts of the world. Many of the animals are not eligible for release due to either injury or human imprinting and have become animal ambassadors.
From snakes up to quail, bobcats, and a very pampered grey fox, students get to learn about these animals and their role in our ecosystem. I always enjoy my Monday mornings at the Center and if you are looking for a hands on VH experience, I can only say come join me! For more information contact elisa.caywood@pisd.org
