Jackie Black, 2018

“I love being a Master Naturalist and am looking forward to retirement when I can be even more involved!”
Jackie Black
I was in the class of 2018, met my husband in 2019 and he was in the class of 2021. I have done quite a bit of volunteering at the Heard and this was my costume for two years for their Halloween outreach event.
In more recent years I have also been volunteering in my own backyard, observing and recording birds for the Cornell Lab Project FeederWatch program. We have approximately a 20′ x 80′ pocket prairie area in our backyard with all native Blackland Prairie plants.

This second photo is a portion of our backyard. The area has been planted for five years now. The area has many native bees, dragonflies, butterflies, moths and hummingbirds. I love tracking down the butterfly eggs and watching them grow into caterpillars, munching away on their host leaf foliage.
