”I want to others experience awe and wonder in nature and help bring up the next generation of naturalists who will care for the earth.”
Charlise
My interests as a Master Naturalist includes birding, native landscapes and helping others to experience the wonder, beauty and healing power of the natural world. I spend the majority my volunteer time as a trail guide and a birder, though to be honest, serving as the Chapter VP is the volunteer work that has helped me to reach 500 hours. Though I’m happy to have volunteered in an administrative role, my interests lie elsewhere. As the Birdability Captain for North Texas with Birdability.org, I have a great passion for making the outdoors accessible to all people and, to that end, I work with our chapter’s Accessibility Committee which is known as NatureAbility. I lead monthly accessible bird outings for the City of Allen at its Senior Center. I also teach classes on birding at the Center and lead bird sit events. The classes I teach are Introduction to Birding, Backyard Birding and Migration. I hope to add more to the class options. I love teaching others about birds and leading bird outings, and my volunteer time with the City of Allen is joyful time well spent. I also enjoy teaching classes on preserving botanical specimens through the alternative photography process known as Cyanotypes.
I believe it’s important to the survival of our planet and the thriving of our lives to teach others about the natural world around us. I want to others experience awe and wonder in nature and help bring up the next generation of naturalists who will care for the earth. This is why I’m a Master Naturalist.
