Our Tribe’s Fortune 1,000 Hours – Deb Hartman

I have volunteered in many places but have probably logged the most hours at the Heard.

I volunteered for the Heard plant sale, the school programs, trail guides and special events such as the Halloween party.

The events I enjoy the most are those where I learn something such as a new plant, bug or bird

I had friends that were Master Gardeners who had been members of the Master Naturalists in the Denton area.  They were thinking of transferring their membership to the Blackland Prairie chapter and asked if I wanted to go with them to be a guest at one of the BPMN monthly meetings.  They thought I would enjoy the program and all the learning experiences that were available.  Since I was a recent transplant from northeast Ohio, I found it a great place to learn about Texas plants, animals, weather, etc.

Although I have since moved to North Richland Hills during the covid pandemic, I have kept my BPMN membership.  The Zoom meetings have made it really easy to continue with BPMN chapter and I really enjoy the monthly speaker and the deep dive classes.

Due to the heat this summer and health issues, I have not volunteered as much as I would like.  Hopefully, the temperature will cool down and I will stay out of surgery rooms long enough to enjoy more volunteering and learning.
