AT: Let’s Talk Propagation

In person lecture hosted by the Quail Valley Garden Club.

Thursday March 14th 9:30a-11:30a at the Missouri City Tennis & Recreation Center (2701 Cypress Point Drive, Missouri City, Tx, 77459)

Speaker:  James Stepp, Propagation Specialist and Texas Master Naturalist and Master Gardener

James will review the two basic types of propagation; sexual (seeds) and asexual (cloning).  In his presentation he will share both the benefits and the drawbacks of both methods.  In regard to sexual propagation, the discussion will focus on the ins and outs of seed collection and viability, as well as the steps to be taken for preparing seeds for planting.  James will enlighten us on what the types and the benefits are of asexual propagation, with explanation on the do’s and don’ts for grafting, cuttings, layering, etc.

James Stepp is a propagation specialist, greenhouse specialist, a Master Naturalist and a Master Gardener.  He has a keen interest in gardening and passion and enthusiasm in propagating plants.  Having a Law degree and a PhD in mathematics, James taught at the University of Houston for 38 years and retired from teaching in 2000.
