Experienced Birder Volunteers Needed!
Hannah Muegge and Rick Adams need volunteers for the annual Spring Bird Study Merit Badge Workshop at James B. Harrison, Long Point Ranch at 8200 Whaley-Long Point Road, Richmond TX, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. This is an all-day event, although if you can’t stay the entire time, you can choose the morning or afternoon shifts. Gates will open at 8:00am, with Scouts starting to arrive at 8:30am. Volunteers should arrive no later than 8:45am. Volunteers who are staying the entire day should bring their own lunch.
Throughout the day, Scouts will engage in various bird-related topics and activities including a bird field trip and project. Volunteers will be provided with supplied worksheet and text that each Scout will receive, detailing the requirements for each topic. Should anyone have questions, they can reach out to Mr. Rick Adams (lead Merit Badge Counselor) or Hannah Muegge (JBH).
Approximate time slots (subject to change) :
1. In the 9:00 – 10:00 AM time slot – 3 concurrent sessions- Intro to Birds; Identify Birds; How to use binoculars
2. In the 10:00 – 11:00 AM time slot, How to use Field Guides
3. In the 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM time slot, Birding Field Trip
4. In the 1:30 PM – 2;30 PM time slot, Extinct/Endangered/Threatened Birds and Birding Careers
5. In the 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM time slot, Help Scouts with project – either build a birdhouse or planting
