Thanks to all volunteers (TMNs and friends, Cub and Boy Scouts and families, LDS elders), who came out on a beautiful cool and dry day and planted more than 100 trees at Seabourne. We also thank Apache Corporation for making the annual tree grant available, the City’s Parks Department for donating 2 bald cypress and a good-size live oak and Bill and Carol Brookshire for donating the black walnut.
Among the 100 Apache trees were oaks, buttonbushes, American beautyberries, wax myrtles and yaupons along with parsley hawthorns, rusty black haw viburnums and Chickasaw plums. They all look great! They were planted in virtually all areas of the park: the woodlands, the wetlands, along the lake, the oak path, the tree line and the shed area. The black walnut, 2 persimmons, 1 parsley hawthorn and 1 rusty viburnum were added to the Edible Garden and 5 Chickasaw plums are now situated on one of the mima mounds.
And thank you, TreeLife Farms ,for delivering them, even in the rain. The rain, however, was perfectly timed a few days before planting to soften the soil. It was a great day to spend outdoors!
And a special thank you to the LDS elders who added a few specimens to the Osage orange hedge and fixed the sprinkler system.
