Chapter Meeting

May 19, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us the 3rd Thursday of the month for our chapter meeting!

Melanie Hollenshead, Cradle of Texas TMN Chapter, will present “Spider Behavior – Why They Do What They Do!

Presentation will discuss the evolution of arachnids, primitive spiders, more modern spiders and their amazing adaptations to their environment. It helps people understand their behavior and focuses on a few very unusual and amazing ways they survive.

Melanie is a retired chemical engineer.  She was a state permitted wildlife rehabilitator specializing in neonate bats, Virginia opossums, squirrels, rodents, skunks and armadillos.  Melanie became a TMN in the Cradle of Texas Chapter in 2019. She has certifications in entomology and is a Texas Water Specialist.  She has focused her attention on “creepies and crawlies”, especially spiders.  She is leading the chapter Citizen Scientist project to conduct a comprehensive survey of the spiders of Brazoria County. She has conducted basic spider biology trainings and led hands on spider hunts to capture and identify spiders. She is very interested in helping others understand and appreciate our 8-legged friends.
