Isle du Bois Tornado Cleanup

June 5 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Hello Wonderful TMN family and park supporting friends,

Following the aftermath of the memorial weekend tornado at the park, we are in need of your help.
There are down trees, damaged carports, damaged roofing, and more. For these clean up days we will be focusing on clearing down debris in areas our park visitors frequent in order to open the park back up as soon as possible. We have scheduled Clean Up days next Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for the Isle du Bois Unit. We will be working 8am-2pm. Volunteers are free to stay the entirety of the time or just as long as they are available. We greatly appreciate the help you and your time you are able to offer

We will meet at the Day Use Area at 8am and start right away. Please arrive ready to go to work right away. It would help for all volunteers to arrive no later than 8:15am to minimize safety briefing time and maximize actual work time. If arriving after 8:15 am, you will need to contact Mindy at 940-727-3295 in order to receive location, instructions, and safety briefing.

Meeting:
Once you enter and pass by the HQ building, stay on the main park road for about 3 miles until it comes to a T in the road at a stop sign
take a right at the stop sign
park near the large restroom building
look for Park Trucks
give Mindy a call if needed

What to expect:
manual labor of removing down tree debris from priority areas
lopping and cutting with battery powered saw as needed
dragging and piling cut tree materials or placing in dumpsters
labor intensity will meet your ability and many hands make for light work but we do need participants willing to provide manual labor

Things to Bring:
plenty of water and electrolyte replacement drinks
lunch if staying until 2pm
loppers
battery powered Sawzall Reciprocating Saw
work gloves
eye protection
ear protection

Dress:
long sleeve shirts
long sleeve pants
closed toe shoes
Dress and prepare for the weather (hats, sunscreen, etc)

Priority Work Areas:
Day Use
Camp grounds (Quail Run 144, 155, 165)
Camp ground trails to bathrooms and playgrounds
Interpretive areas
Trails
Please share with the chapter and even surrounding chapters if they are able to help. If you have any questions at all please feel free to send me an email or give me a call.

Thank you and stay safe,
