Native Prairie Association Texas, Jeff Quayle Led Hikes – AT

March 28 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Kachina Prairie Tour (organized by TPWD biologist Taylor Garrison)

I am pleased to announce a field tour at Kachina Prairie Park on Thursday, March 28th, between 9am and 12pm. Kachina Prairie is a Blackland prairie remnant located within the city limits of Ennis, TX. It is managed by the Texas Master Naturalists in partnership with the City and the Texas Land Conservancy. Consisting of ~30-acres this prairie has representative vegetation of the historical tallgrass prairie: big bluestem, yellow indiangrass, little bluestem, sideoats grama, purpletop tridens, white tridens, pitcher sage, partridge pea, prairie clover, among many other species. It was burned last winter (2022-23), so we can see a prairie 1 year post-fire. Tip: bring gloves & plan on hand pulling any Johnsongrass you happen to see while on the tour (we will learn to ID it if you don’t already).
