Our regular workdays to attend the landscape are the 3rd Tuesday of the month from approximately 8 am to 10 am..

The native plant landscape bed is at the Fayette County AgriLife Extension Office on Svoboda Lane in La Grange and has been developed over a number of years by our chapter. There is a wonderful guidebook for the plants in a binder available at the Extension agent’s office. The landscape includes trees, shrubs, forbs, and grasses. Some pruning and weeding are always needed. Bring your favorite gardening tools and water. Also bring large garbage sacks for disposal of debris. We welcome all helpers and this site is a great opportunity to learn more about native plantings.

Always verify the workday with the project leader in case a date or time needs to be changed.

UPDATE: Just a friendly reminder next Tuesday, March 17, is our regularly scheduled workday for cleaning up the landscape bed at the La Grange AgriLife building.

Nita Tieman has agreed to be on hand for any questions as I cannot be there to supervise.

I visited the bed yesterday and noted dried stems of the Esparansa and American Beauty Berry need pruning. New growth has begun at the base of each. there seems to be what I believe is prairie parsley that should be removed as well as other invaders. the side oats looks dead but I’m not giving up on it and pray it does not get plucked out. I’m not sure we’ve seen the last of cold weather but I have it on good authority that “probably no more freezing”. The Texas Red Bud looks fabulous.
