Volunteer Opportunity – Balcones Canyonlands NWR Refuge Week

Balcones Canyonlands NWR Refuge Week

Time: Varies on opportunity. We need several people to man an information booth for the day. 9-5. Friends of Balcones Canyionlands have various activities through out the day tha they need volunteers for. Attached below.

9:00 – 11:00 am
LANDSCAPING for WILDLIFE: Talk-n-Walk
*Binoculars and identification books provided.

9:00 – 10:00 am
HIKING ANCIENT SEABEDS
Scoop up and collect water insects in a creek.
For adults and kids.

10:00 – 11:15 am
WALK with SPIDER JOE

10:15 – 11:00 am
PROTECTING our WATER
Play with clay, “rain,” chocolate sludge in an
Enviroscape model.

10:00 – 11:00 am
WALKING STICK WALK
Kids’ introduction to insects and catch bugs too!

11:00 – Noon
NATIVE GRASS WALK The small and the tall.

11:15 – noon
TO BE A BEE
Life of honeybees throughout the seasons.

12:15 – 1:00 pm
SNAKES ALIVE! Live snake program.
Other slimy or scaly critters too!

1:15 – 2:30 pm
WALK with SPIDER JOE

1:30 – 3:00 pm
USEFUL NATIVE PLANTS Casual walk.

2:00 – 4:00 pm
NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY
Digital and 35 mm workshop. Register ahead. Bring your camera manual & camera. For Adults.
Directions:
Directions: From FM 1431 (connecting Marble Falls and Lago Vista), go north on RR 1174 for approximately 5 miles. From Hwy. 29 (connecting Liberty Hill and Burnet), go south on RR 1174 for about 10 miles. Doeskin Ranch is on the east side of the road.
