Williamson County Extension Office Help Desk

June 17, 2015 by glennkleinert

We need a Project Coordinator/Leader!!!  The Williamson County Master Gardeners have been staffing a Help Desk at the AgriLife Building to receive and answer questions regarding gardening, native plants, soil sampling, use of pesticides and other inquiries ranging from natural resource management to identification of plants and animals.  Goodwater would like to assist in this effort by providing trained volunteers from our chapter to work at the Help Desk.

How does it work?  At this time the Help Desk is being staffed two days a week from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (growing season).  It is being staffed one day a week in the winter season. Training is available and questions may be received from walk ins, emails and/or telephone calls.  Questions do not have to be answered immediately.  Check sheets and logs are provided for assistance and questions are researched using approved resource brochures and documents (TPWD, Texas A&M, Texas Plant Disease Handbook, and The MG Handbook are a few such sources).

We need a Master Naturalist volunteer who would be willing to step up and become Project Coordinator/Leader and help get our chapter involved in this effort.  The Project Leader would set up and guide our involvement.

All hours worked would be credited as volunteer service hours for organization and set up of the project as well as ongoing management.  Volunteers who actually man the help desk earn volunteer hours.  This is not only an opportunity to be of service to the citizens of our county, it could be a great learning opportunity for those fielding questions and conducting research to determine the answers.

If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Wayne Rhoden at mgardener@suddenlink.net
