River Ranch County Park

Below is a list of service opportunities at River Ranch County Park for interested Texas Master Naturalists.  Your time, expertise, and vision are vital to the development and continued success of the park.

To volunteer for GWMN service opportunities, please contact the project leader, Dave Armstrong dba1940@att.net  512-260-7477.

2017 Work Project Calendar

March 25 :  Wildflower and Prairie Grass Surveys.

April 29:  Invasive species removal around oak trees along main road.

May 20:  Cleanup around homestead area (mow, weed-eat, remove cactus brush from equipment, trim trees; photograph and document farm equipment; invasive species removal as time permits.

June 17:  Workday cancelled; activities will resume in the fall.

July 22:  TBD.

August 19:  TBD.

September 16:  TBD.

October 21:  Fall Prairie Clearing Project (with BSA).

November 4:  Fall Prairie Clearing Project (alternate/rainout date).

December 9:  Fence Removal.

January 20:  Fence Removal.

Specialized projects that can be conducted  on an individual “time available” basis include:

(1) provide “intellectual assistance ” to Boy Scouts in cedar removal projects and to serve as technical advisers on Eagle Scout projects in the future

(2) conduct bird and native plant surveys, including setting up procedures for routine surveys

(3) participate in a prairie restoration project, possibly in cooperation with BSA.
