Balcones Canyonlands Volunteer Opportunities

April 28, 2017 by Mary Ann Melton

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge is just outside of Austin and is in need of volunteers to help teach our hands-on science field trips for students grades 3-5. Thank you for your help passing this along.

Dear Volunteer,

Please consider signing up to volunteer at one of our May field trips. I have several open spots for next week’s field trips. Please take a look at the open spots and sign up if you are available. We need you! When you volunteer to help at our field trips you will have fun and help to connect 3-5th grade students with wildlife, science, and their public lands. Field trips are held at the Doeskin Ranch unit of Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, click here for a link to google maps.

If you have never participated in a field trip, consider signing up to be a “Guide.” This way you’ll get to see each station and feel more comfortable teaching at the next field trip. Our field trip curriculum can be downloaded here: https://www.friendsofbalcones.org/Volunteer-Materials

To Register: please login to the volunteer login page (click here) at the Friends of Balcones website OR just email ([email protected]) or call me at 830-220-9254 and I will get you registered!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all that you do! Volunteers are the absolute best and it’s my pleasure to get to work with you!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

*PS – I am looking for a bird mascot/costume and one volunteer to help me with a program for 180 1st graders next Friday, May 5. Do you know anyone who’d be willing to loan me a bird costume/mascot for a day?

Gratefully,
Jennifer
