Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center – Data Entry for Tobusch Fishhook Cactus Inventory

July 18, 2017 by vickizardiackas

Dr. Karen Clary at LBJWC has requested  help related to cactus research she’s doing; the databasing component could be done from home. Please let her know if you’re interested. Must be comfortable working on spreadsheets and independently.

Contact: Karen Clary, Director of Plant Conservation Program

Task 1:  Enter numerical data collected while monitoring growth and flowering habits of the Tobusch fishhook cacti in the greenhouse.
·        Number of volunteers needed = 2-4
·        Volunteers would enter lists of numbers from a handwritten paper monitoring sheet into an excel data base and ensure accuracy of entries. The ideal process would be to have one volunteer read from the list while the other volunteer enters data onto the computer.
·        Length of time: about 12-15 hours total. Work can be broken up into smaller amounts of time.
·        Working conditions:  Work would take place indoors.  Bringing your own laptop to do the work is preferable, since we have limited access to available computers at the WFC.  Work can also be conducted at home if you have a computer.
·        Skills needed:  Once trained, volunteers will  work independently.  Ability to pay attention to detail when entering data.

Thanks!
