Here’s some information about upcoming events to add to your calendars.
The next Workday at River Ranch is scheduled for Saturday, October 26. This event, however, has been turned over to the current Master Naturalists Training Class and will feature a class on native grasses by Dr. Barron Rector followed by volunteer work collecting grass seed for later use in the Park. I highly recommend you try to attend Dr. Rector’s training; he is a valuable resource in identifying grasses. Mary Ann Melton (and probably August Wusterhausen and/or Kate Knight) will be providing more details very soon.
The November Workday is scheduled for Saturday, November 23. No decision has been made yet on the planned activity, but the Park will need help assembling picnic tables in preparation for the Park’s opening in the spring. The Park staff has suggested there also will be photo opportunities, prairie plantings, and tours that day.
On December 14, the Park staff is planning a Volunteer Appreciation Day. There still may be an opportunity to put in a couple of hours of volunteer work before you are treated by the Park staff.
I am sending this message on the activities for the rest of the year because, for a variety of very personal reasons, I have made the difficult decision that I can no longer participate as the Project Coordinator for the Good Water Chapter’s River Ranch County Park project. I have advised Wayne Rhoden, our Chapter president, of my decision, and I am sure he would appreciate hearing from one of you willing to take on the role. Working with the Park staff has been very rewarding, and I am sure you, as the coordinator, would get a lot of satisfaction in helping as the Park nears its opening.
I have enjoyed very much working with you. It was very difficult to come to this decision. But decisions sometimes have to be made, regardless of how one might feel about them.
With best wishes to each of you,
Patrick
