Trail Blazing at Berry Creek Preserve: Volunteer Opportunity

October 13, 2020 by shickman

Saturday, Oct 17th at 9:30am
Friday, Oct 23rd at 9:30am
Saturday Oct 31st at 9:30am

Volunteers are needed to work at the Berry Creek Preserve, a Texas Land Conservancy Preserve.  We will be clearing brush and fallen trees and doing general trail work.  Groups are limited to 5 volunteers for safety reasons.  If you are interested in helping out please print and fill out the linked Liability release form in advance and email it to me at [email protected] or paper mail (allow several days delay for paper mail).  You can scan or photograph the filled out form.  Parking is adjacent to the work area.  Bring gloves, loppers and a pruning saw if you have them.  If not tools will be provided.  Closed toe shoes, long sleeved shirts and long pants are required as the brush can be a bit scratchy.  Additional information will be mailed the day before the volunteer day.

The Berry Creek Preserve is adjacent to Berry Creek and is unlike any other Preserve you will find in the county.  It is not just a wild area with many deer, native trees and shrubs but it is also in what is called a Floodway.  The trail that is being designed will show how the environment is affected when the area receives occasional severe floods and very fast running water.

Report hours at: NPA: Other Locations; include Berry Creek in description
