Chapter Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation

April 10 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Heartwood Chapter Meetings are scheduled monthly on the second Wednesday (except December) at 6:30 p.m. on the first floor of Sam Houston State University, Woodlands Campus, 3380 College Park Dr, The Woodlands.

April Meeting

In celebration of Volunteer Awareness Month, we will hear from three of our partner organizations:

  • The Woodlands TownshipGrace DeCarlo serves as the Recycling and Waste Minimization Coordinator for The Woodlands Township and has an M.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Illinois-Springfield. As an environmental educator, Grace serves as a resource for proper disposal and recycling of both day-to-day and out-of-the-ordinary items. Additionally, she serves as the zero-waste liaison at selected township events, hosts recycling collection events, and coordinates the yearly community litter cleanup day. Grace will provide an overview of recycling in The Woodlands, explain how to conveniently expand your recycling efforts, and discuss the numerous benefits of recycling for the community.  Teri MacArthur is a founding member of the Heartwood Master Naturalist Chapter and was previously a member of the Gulf Coast Chapter. She currently serves The Woodlands Township as Water Conservation Coordinator, offering training and volunteering opportunities related to water (and what isn’t?) for residents of the Township and nearby areas. Teri will introduce ways to protect local waterways and ecosystems.
  • Bayou Land Conservancy –  Karastin Katusin is a Heartwood TMN member, a Certified Interpretive Guide, an adjunct faculty member at Lone Star College, and an avid outdoor enthusiast. She has a master’s degree in geology and currently works in land conservation. Her current hobbies include gardening, macro photography, natural dyes, and quilting.  She loves creating safe and inclusive outdoor experiences for all. She will speak about the Bayou Land Conservancy, what it is, and how to get involved.
  • Kleb WoodsSusan Beckemeier will present information on Volunteer Opportunities with Kleb Woods Nature Preserve. She will provide an overview of the park and share what volunteer opportunities are available.
