Hybrid Event Description:
Mark has been with the Texas Parks and Wildlife since 1986. He started at the coastal WMA outside of Lake Jackson Texas called Peach Point Wildlife Management Area whose name was later changed to The Justin Hearst WMA. He then moved to Gonzales Texas as a regulatory biologist and then to Edna Texas until 1999. When working in Southeast Texas, along with assisting landowners, He was involved in research projects on Bald Eagles, piping plovers, peregrine falcons, white-tailed deer, bobwhite quail, waterfowl and colonial waterbirds.
He transferred to Mason Mt WMA in 1999 and assumed the area manager responsibilities in 2002. While at Mason Mt WMA he have been involved with research associated with white-tailed deer, numerous exotic ungulate species, collared peccary reintroduction, Texas horned lizard reintroduction, and black tailed prairie dog reintroduction.
Besides research on game and non-game species, he also have been very involved in the management of habitat through the use of prescribed fire. As a burn boss he have conducted over 160 prescribed fires totaling almost 20,000 acres.
