Webinar Time: 6:00p-7:30p
Event Summary: Presenting the most common mistakes pond managers can make to manage vegetation and the best practices to improve ponds.
Event Description:
The hour-long webinar will discuss the most common mistakes made when managing aquatic vegetation in ponds and fisheries. Presenter will address the most common mistakes pond managers can make when using chemical or other treatments to management algae or problem aquatic plants, such as undertreating, overtreating and misidentifying vegetation that could lead to ineffective treatments.
Management of aquatic vegetation species varies greatly from terrestrial plant management and has many unique considerations including water chemistry and water flow. This presentation will address common mistakes that are made when mechanically, biologically, or chemically managing algae or aquatic plants which may negatively impact a pond’s ecosystem or result in ineffective treatment. After covering mistakes, correct management practices will be outlined to ensure participants are armed with the knowledge to make informed management decisions regarding aquatic vegetation in the future. At the end of the program, 30 minutes will be reserved for questions.
The featured speaker is Brittany Chesser, AgriLife Extension aquatic vegetation management program specialist and lead diagnostic scientist at AgriLife Extension’s Aquatic Diagnostics Library.
