  • Groundwater Planning & How to Get Involved

From providing drinking water to sustaining our springs and rivers, groundwater is the lifeblood of Kendall County. In the last year, we’ve seen drought threaten the health of our aquifers. At the same time, growth in the county means more people will rely on groundwater than ever before.

Natalie Ballew is the director of the Groundwater Division at the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), which collects, interprets, and provides accurate and objective information on the groundwater resources of Texas to citizens, groundwater resource managers, policy makers, and lawmakers. Natalie previously managed the agency’s Groundwater Technical Assistance team and worked as a hydrogeologist on both the Groundwater Technical Assistance and Groundwater Availability Modeling teams. Prior to joining the TWDB, Natalie spent some time at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality working on U.S.–Mexico water issues. Natalie is a licensed professional geoscientist, has a bachelor’s degree in geological sciences from the University of Southern California, and master’s degrees in energy and earth resources and public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin.
