Eastern Screech Owls are amazing creatures, and no matter how many toys we gift to our children, they will always be most amazed by interacting with another living creature. The Eastern Screech Owls, owl boxes and cameras, and how to set them up will be demonstrated by the speaker.
Event Description:
The Friends of Fredericksburg presentation of Eastern Screech Owls, owl boxes and cameras to record their activities will be held at the Fredericksburg Agrilife Extension Building, 38 Business Ct. in Fredericksburg Texas, on January 13, 2024 from 1:00-3:00pm. Retired Game Warden, Michael Mitchell will share his extensive knowledge of the little owls, which he has studied for several years. The workshop will help attendees to learn how to set up an owl box in their own yard, and become amazed at what might occur.
Having spent 17 years as a game warden for Texas Parks and Wildlife, Mike has had the opportunity to serve Texans. Conservation of our natural resources has been his focus both professionally and personally. Mike had the privilege throughout his career to hold different positions within the Law Enforcement division. He began his career in 2004 as a field game warden in Cameron County, then moved to the Texas Gulf Coast. He completed the final leg as an Assistant Commander at Austin Headquarters. Mike was also a frequent instructor at the Game Warden Training Center, the National Association of Conservation Law Enforcement Chiefs academy, International Conservation Chiefs academy and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. He simultaneously led the way in new technologies for Texas Game Wardens, from social media to mobil apps. One of those won the best app in Texas government.
He is also a Master Gardener and Texas Master Naturalist, having help establish the Camino Real Chapter in Milam County. He co-authored the Master Naturalist curriculum on Laws and Ethics. He is a frequent speaker at chapters around the state.
