Event Summary:
Wildlife habitat isn’t just in parks. Your own yard can provide a place of refuge for butterflies, birds, and other wildlife…as well as yourself.
Event Description:
Meet Ranger Lisa Cole in the Exhibit Gallery to discuss ways you can create a pocket prairie in even the smallest space in your yard using plants which are native to our region. Bring your questions and a notebook, and we’ll share some ideas.
This activity is open to ages 12 and up and includes both a seated activity and possibly a short hike to look at plant examples. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
Registration is NOT required. Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass (link below @ Register). Meet at the Exhibit Gallery, next to the Visitor Center.
Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person.
This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the Government Canyon webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
