Learn about the conception of the Birdiest Festival in America which showcases birding hotspots in Corpus Christi and along the Texas Coastal Bend and how the Festival got its name. Learn about some of the species and rarities that have been sighted in recent years and learn about the registration process.
Webinar Description:
The Birdiest Festival in America will be April 24-28, 2024, and registration is already open at www.birdiestfestival.org The Birdiest Festival in America was established in 2018 and is held during the last weekend in April each year, during the peak of spring migration. It has field trips to local birding hotspots and private access ranches and wildlife management areas not open to the public. The Raptor Project provides educational programs during the event. Educational programs, workshops and keynote speakers are additional options to hone your birding skills and knowledge. Vendor Tent is open daily Wednesday-Saturday. Saturday includes a family fun day and artisan market encouraging more people to experience the wonder of birding and nature. Flint Hills Resources is the presenting sponsor for the third straight year.
About the speakers
Denise Housler is a graduate of Texas A&M Corpus Christi and co-owner of Aquaria Services, Inc. in Corpus Christi, installing aquariums, ponds and water features in the region. She is an avid birder and has been on the Board of Directors of the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center for 9 years and is currently the board chairperson as well as the Birdiest Festival in America chairperson.
Dr. Michael Womack received a B.S. in Agriculture from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, an M.S. in Floriculture from Texas A&M University, and an Ed.D. in Agricultural Education jointly from Texas Tech University and Texas A&M University. He is the former Extension Horticulture Agent for Nueces County, coordinating the Nueces Master Gardeners and was establishing chapter advisor for South Texas Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists. He served on the STBGNC board for 9 years before joining the staff as Executive Director in 2006.
