Event Description:
This is a presentation for members of the Cordillera Nature Club only. Find out about “Deep Time,” disappearing mountain ranges, the rise and fall of sea level, fossils you might find, major fault systems in our back yard, the caves beneath our homes, the history of the areas rivers and much much more. These topics will help us understand why the Hill Country is the way it is today.
About the speaker: Mr. Dana Rowan’s goal is to help us translate and decipher what the rocks in Central Texas are telling us. He holds a Bachelor of Science Geology Degree from Wheaton College, and a Master of Science Geology Degree from Arizona State University. He worked as a petroleum geologist for Chevron and predecessor companies for 35 years concentrating on exploration, development, technical training and asset evaluations. Dana and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Fredericksburg to be close to family and to enjoy the geology and natural beauty of the Hill Country. Dana enjoys visiting and describing rock outcrops and hiking in local public spaces. He is a licensed professional geoscientist in the State of Texas and a member of the Austin Geological Society.
