Event Description:
Take a nice journey back in the early years of Hill Country settlement and learn tales of early Texas naturalists and adventurers, who risked their lives in pursuit of scientific data while examining and documenting our diverse natural history. Lonnie Childs will focus on some of the better known Texas Explorers, including Ferdinand Roemer and Ferdinand Lindheimer, both of whom spent time in the Hill Country pursuing their scientific studies. Both were in the first wave of German immigration, coming to Texas in the middle 1840s.
Our speaker, Lonnie Childs, has been involved with multiple non-profit organizations including serving on the Board of Directors of the Gillespie County Society, and State President of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT).
